2027 Nissan Armada in Martinsville, VA

A 2027 Armada PRO-4X on loose gravel, photographed by Nissan for the 2027 model year. The grille, the light bar and the all-terrain wheels are the ones you will see on our lot. The gravel is the part that travels well to Henry County, where plenty of driveways turn to it past the mailbox.

The 2027 Nissan Armada sold near Martinsville, VA comes in five grades: SL, Platinum, PRO-4X, NISMO and Platinum Reserve. Every one runs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, tows up to 8,500 pounds properly equipped and seats seven or eight.

What Changed

What is new on the 2027 Nissan Armada?

Two changes define the 2027 Nissan Armada. Nissan adds a first-ever Dark Armor appearance package on the SL grade, and ProPILOT Assist 2.1 becomes standard on Platinum Reserve. The gradewalk is also streamlined to five: SL, Platinum, PRO-4X, NISMO and Platinum Reserve.

The third change is the one nobody announces loudly. The 2026 lineup opened with an SV grade. For 2027 it does not, so the Armada now starts at SL.

That matters more than it sounds. SL is also the only grade offered with rear-wheel drive, and it is the only grade that can be ordered with Dark Armor. Everything above it ships with four-wheel drive as standard equipment.

The mechanical side is unchanged, and we would rather say so than invent a bigger headline. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, the 9-speed automatic, the 8,500-pound tow rating and the seating layouts all carry over from 2026.

If you want the primary source rather than our summary, Nissan publishes the 2027 Armada press kit on its own newsroom. Every 2027 claim on this page was checked against it in October 2026.

The Five Grades

Which 2027 Armada grade fits a Martinsville driver?

SL is the entry grade for 2027 and the only one offered with rear-wheel drive. Platinum and Platinum Reserve carry the leather and the 14.3-inch screens. PRO-4X is the off-road grade with all-terrain tires and a locking rear differential. NISMO is the performance one.

Read that table as a fork rather than a ladder. PRO-4X and NISMO are not simply nicer versions of Platinum. They point in opposite directions, with all-terrain tires at one end and 22-inch high-performance tires at the other.

Around Henry County the PRO-4X argument is easy to make and the NISMO argument is honest too. Martinsville Speedway's administration and ticketing building sits at 4201 Greensboro Road, a few hundred yards up our own street.

Inventory moves week to week, so call before you drive out. Our current Armada inventory is the place to see what is actually on the ground today.

New for 2027

What does the Dark Armor package add to the Armada SL?

The Dark Armor package is new for 2027 and builds on the Armada SL. It adds a panoramic moonroof, black 20-inch wheels, black leatherette seats, black Nissan emblem and Armada lettering, Dark Armor badges, a dark grille and lower fascia, dark exterior trim and dark interior accents.

Open panoramic moonroof over the front seats of a 2027 Nissan Armada, with two people up front and a map on the center display
The Dark Armor package is not shown here. Nissan's 2027 Armada gallery does not include a Dark Armor car, so there is no photograph of it to run. What is in this frame is the panoramic moonroof that Dark Armor bundles in, open over the front seats. Come look at the trim in person at 4760 Greensboro Rd in Ridgeway and we will walk the rest of the list with you.

Appearance, not capability

Nothing in Dark Armor changes how the Armada drives. The engine, the transmission, the tow rating and the suspension are identical to any other SL.

The panoramic moonroof is the one item on the list that is not cosmetic. It is a real piece of equipment and it comes bundled into the package rather than sold separately.

Nissan is doing this across the lineup

Dark Armor is not an Armada idea. Nissan lists a Dark Armor grade on the 2027 Murano and a Dark Armor grade on the Rogue, so the look is becoming a family trait.

If a blacked-out midsize crossover is closer to what you want, the 2027 Rogue page covers its own version of the same treatment.

Towing and Capacity

How much can the 2027 Nissan Armada tow?

Nissan rates the 2027 Armada at 8,500 pounds of trailer towing when properly equipped, with 850 pounds of tongue weight. A Class IV harness and a pre-wire for a brake controller are standard. An integrated trailer brake controller is standard on PRO-4X, NISMO and Platinum Reserve.

Henry County has about 50,000 people spread across a lot of ground, and Martinsville itself holds roughly 13,000 of them. Horse trailers and boat trailers are ordinary here rather than exotic.

Race weekends make the point harder to ignore. The Speedway's administration and ticketing building is at 4201 Greensboro Road and we are at 4760, which puts a loaded trailer and a full-size SUV on the same stretch of road twice a year.

Inside

How many people does the 2027 Armada seat?

Seven-passenger seating is standard on every 2027 Armada grade, and eight-passenger seating is available on SL, Platinum, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve. Cargo room runs 20.4 cubic feet behind the third row, 56.3 with the third row folded and 97.1 with both rear rows down.

All three rows in one frame, with the third row at the far left. On the 51-mile run up US-220 to Roanoke, the third row is the seat that decides whether the trip takes one vehicle or two.

The seven versus eight question

Seven seats means second-row captain's chairs, which is the standard layout. The Split-Bench Seat Package swaps in a 40/20/40 split-folding bench with a center console and the EZ FLEX seating system, and that is the eighth seat.

Captain's chairs give a walkway to the third row. A bench gives you one more belt. Neither is better in the abstract, so pick by who actually rides in the back.

Cargo behind a full house

20.4 cubic feet behind a raised third row is the number worth remembering. That is real grocery and ball-bag space with eight people aboard, which a midsize three-row crossover does not have.

Technology and Safety

What technology comes in the 2027 Nissan Armada?

The 2027 Nissan Armada runs dual 12.3-inch screens on SL and dual 14.3-inch screens on Platinum, PRO-4X, NISMO and Platinum Reserve. A Klipsch 12-speaker, 600-watt system is standard on every grade, and Google built-in with Google Maps and Google Assistant is available.

Two screens running side by side, with physical dials for climate underneath them. Dials beat a touchscreen submenu on the gravel stretches out past Stuart, where you are not taking your eyes off the road to change the fan speed.

ProPILOT Assist 2.1

Standard on Platinum Reserve for 2027 and available on Platinum as the Platinum AD2 Package. It lets an attentive driver go hands-off in single-lane freeway driving. It cannot prevent collisions and the driver stays responsible for the vehicle.

Nissan Safety Shield 360

Standard on all five grades. It covers Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic Braking.

3D Around View Monitor

Available, with Invisible Hood View and a Front Wide View camera. Invisible Hood View renders the ground under the nose on the screen, which earns its keep on a rutted driveway or a blind crest.

Klipsch 12-speaker audio

Klipsch is the American audio brand behind the Armada's speaker system. The 600-watt, 12-channel setup is standard equipment on every grade, not an upgrade reserved for the top of the range.

Full specification tables for every grade live on Nissan's own Armada specs and trims page if you want to read the figures in the manufacturer's own format.

On Our Roads

Does the 2027 Armada suit the roads around Martinsville?

The 2027 Nissan Armada runs standard four-wheel drive on Platinum, PRO-4X, NISMO and Platinum Reserve. SL is offered with rear-wheel drive or Intelligent 4WD. PRO-4X clears 9.6 inches at rest and 11.6 inches with the air suspension raised. The 425-horsepower V6 requires regular unleaded, with premium recommended.

Close view of a black alloy wheel and Yokohama Geolandar all terrain tire on a 2027 Nissan Armada PRO-4X standing on broken rock
The all terrain tire and black alloy fitted to the PRO-4X grade, not the Dark Armor package. Plenty of Henry County driveways turn to loose stone past the mailbox, and this is the setup that shrugs at it.

US-220 north of here is the Virgil H. Goode Highway. It runs between Cahas Mountain and the Blue Ridge at Boones Mill and crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway at Murray Gap.

That is a towing-grade climb, and it is the reason 516 lb-ft of torque is a practical number rather than a bragging one. A long grade with a trailer behind you is where a full-size SUV earns the fuel it drinks.

The same road is the reason standard four-wheel drive on four of the five grades reads as a real upgrade for 2027. Ice on the shaded side of a cut does not care how much power you have.

Two practical notes. The tank holds 23.6 gallons, which covers the round trip to Roanoke with room to spare. And regular unleaded is the required fuel on the 425-horsepower grades, so only the NISMO forces you onto premium.

Thinking about what you are driving now? Start with a trade value and then look at financing before you come in, so the conversation at the desk is short.

Right-Sizing

Should you buy the Armada or the Pathfinder?

The 2027 Nissan Armada is body-on-frame with a twin-turbo V6 and 8,500 pounds of towing. The Pathfinder is a lighter unibody three-row crossover that is easier to park and uses less fuel. If you are not towing near the Armada's limit, the Pathfinder is usually the easier vehicle to live with.

We would rather sell you the right one than the bigger one. An Armada bought for three rows alone is a lot of vehicle to park at the Uptown Martinsville lots and a lot of fuel to buy on a 30-mile commute to Danville.

The Armada earns its size on three jobs. A heavy trailer, eight seats with cargo still behind them, and a long highway haul where the air suspension and the hands-off freeway assist actually get used.

If any of that is a maybe, drive both. The Nissan Pathfinder page covers the smaller three-row, and we will line both up on the same afternoon rather than making you come twice.

Gunter Nissan includes complimentary powertrain coverage on qualified new and select pre-owned vehicles bought here, adding up to four years and up to 60,000 miles.
