The 2027 Nissan Murano adds a Dark Armor grade, puts Snow Mode on every grade, and trims the lineup to three: SL, Dark Armor and Platinum. The 2.0-liter VC-Turbo carries over at 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft, with intelligent all-wheel drive standard across the range.

Nissan calls the new lineup a streamlined gradewalk, which is a tidy way of saying there are fewer decisions to make. The three grades that remain are all well equipped, and the gap between them is now about appearance, audio, roof and driver assist rather than basic content.

Snow Mode is the quiet one worth noticing. It is now a drive-mode option on every grade, not something you shop for. Paired with the standard all-wheel drive, it earns its keep on the first slick morning in Henry County. Everything on this page comes from Nissan's own 2027 Murano press kit.

The Powertrain Carries Over

The 2.0-liter VC-Turbo still makes 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft through a 9-speed automatic. That is a conventional automatic, which some buyers go looking for on purpose.

Dark Armor is a darkened appearance grade new for 2027. Nissan lists gloss black side and window molding, sporty front and rear bumpers, a Dark Armor badge, gloss black Nissan badges and 21-inch gloss black alloy wheels. It sits between the SL and the Platinum.

Nissan has been rolling the Dark Armor name across the lineup, and the Rogue already wears it here in Ridgeway. On the Murano it lands on a shape that was already low and wide, so the blacked-out molding and the 21-inch wheels read as deliberate rather than bolted on.

Dark Armor also picks up equipment, not just trim. A panoramic moonroof with a powered shade and Bose Premium Series audio with 10 speakers are both on this grade, and Google built-in is available. If you want the look without the top of the range, this is the one.

Roanoke is 51 miles north of Martinsville on US-220, the Virgil H. Goode Highway, and the drive takes about an hour with Rocky Mount at the halfway point. The 2027 Murano carries 241 horsepower, a 9-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive, which suits that climb past Cahas Mountain.

North of Boones Mill the road threads between Cahas Mountain and the Blue Ridge and crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway at Murray Gap. It is a real climb, not a rolling one. A torque-converter 9-speed holds a gear there in a way a lot of drivers prefer to a belt-driven alternative.

Going the other way, Danville is 30 miles east on US-58, about 36 minutes. Neither trip is a hardship in a quiet two-row crossover, which is more than you can say for most of the three-row alternatives at the same footprint.
