2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid in Martinsville, VA

The all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid, photographed by Nissan for its U.S. debut. This is a ground-up redesign rather than a hybrid version of the Rogue you already know.

The all-new 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid is the first e-POWER vehicle Nissan has sold in the United States. The gasoline engine never drives the wheels; it runs as a generator and electric motors do the driving. There is no plug. Dual-motor electric all-wheel drive is standard on all three trims, and the EPA city estimate is 41 mpg.

How does e-POWER actually work?

The engine is a generator, not a drive unit. It never sends power to the wheels. It runs a 1.5-liter three-cylinder at the speed that suits it best, charges a small battery, and electric motors move the car. You fuel it with regular gasoline and never plug it in.

If you have driven an electric car, the way it moves will be familiar: the response off the line is immediate and there are no gearchanges, because there is no conventional gearbox to change. If you have only driven gasoline cars, the thing you will notice is that engine speed and road speed are no longer tied to each other.

What it is not is a plug-in. You are not arranging a charger, you are not planning around charge time, and you are not changing anything about how you refuel. That is the whole point of the system for a market like ours, where home charging is far from universal.

Which 2027 Rogue Hybrid trim fits a Martinsville driver?

Three trims, all all-wheel drive. SV is the entry car with dual 12.3-inch displays. SR adds quilted sport seating and is the most efficient of the three. Platinum brings dual 14.3-inch displays, a head-up display, Bose audio and a panoramic moonroof.

The panoramic moonroof is optional on SV as part of the Premium Package and on SR as part of the Technology Package. On Platinum it is standard and covers both rows. Selectable Terrain Modes are standard on all three.

What fuel economy does the 2027 Rogue Hybrid get?

All three trims carry an EPA estimate of 41 mpg in the city. The SR is rated 36 mpg highway and 38 combined, while SV and Platinum are rated 35 highway and 37 combined. It takes regular gasoline rather than premium, which is worth weighing into the running cost against a turbocharged rival.

The city figure being higher than the highway figure surprises people. It is normal for this kind of hybrid: stop-and-go driving is where the electric motors and the regenerative braking recover the most energy, while steady highway speed gives them the least to work with.

These are EPA estimates for comparing vehicles. Your actual mileage will vary with how you drive, how you maintain the vehicle, and the roads you use.

Does a Rogue Hybrid make sense for a Martinsville commute?

It depends on the drive you actually do. Martinsville to Danville is about 30 miles and 36 minutes on US-58. Roanoke is 51 miles up US-220, with Rocky Mount at the halfway mark. On either of those, run the 41 mpg city estimate against what your current vehicle returns.

The case is strongest if your week is mostly short trips and town driving around Martinsville, Collinsville and Bassett, because that is exactly where a series hybrid is at its most efficient. A long steady run up US-220 narrows the gap.

Standard all-wheel drive matters here too. Gravel drives are common once you are out past Stuart or Bassett, and US-220 gets ice in February. You are not paying extra for the drivetrain that handles it, because every trim has it.

What driver assistance does the 2027 Rogue Hybrid have?

Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist mitigation is standard, along with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System. ProPILOT Assist is enhanced for 2027 with available Auto Lane Change and Hands-off Traffic Jam Support.

e-Pedal is the one that changes how the car feels day to day. Lift off the accelerator and the vehicle slows substantially, so most of your stop-and-go driving can be done with one pedal. Nissan pairs it with what it calls Smooth Stop technology. The brake pedal is still there and still does what it always did.

Driver assistance systems assist. They do not drive the vehicle for you, and they do not remove your responsibility for watching the road. Ask us to walk you through what each system does and does not do before you rely on any of it.

Getting here

Gunter Nissan of Martinsville

4760 Greensboro Rd, Ridgeway, VA 24148

(276) 956-1212

Greensboro Road is US-220 heading south toward the North Carolina line. The Martinsville Speedway administration and ticketing building sits a few hundred yards up the same road at 4201 Greensboro Rd, which is the landmark most people here navigate by.

From Danville it is about 30 miles and roughly 36 minutes on US-58, then a few miles on US-220. Because the Rogue Hybrid is brand new, calling ahead is worth more than usual on this one.

What do Martinsville drivers say about Gunter Nissan?

These are Google reviews pulled straight from the dealership's profile, in whatever order Google returns them, rather than a set we picked out. They cover the whole store rather than the Rogue Hybrid specifically, so read them for how we treat people and not for notes on this particular model.

What else do Martinsville shoppers ask about the 2027 Rogue Hybrid?

What is the 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid?

It is an all-new Rogue built around Nissan's e-POWER system, and it is the first time e-POWER has been sold in the United States. The gasoline engine never drives the wheels. It runs as a generator, and electric motors do the driving.

Dual-motor electric all-wheel drive is standard on every trim: SV, SR and Platinum.

Do you have to plug in a Rogue Hybrid?

No. There is no plug and no charging to arrange. You put gasoline in it exactly as you would any other Rogue, and the engine keeps the battery topped up as you drive.

That is the practical difference between e-POWER and a plug-in hybrid. Nothing about your routine changes.

What fuel economy does the 2027 Rogue Hybrid get?

EPA estimates are 41 mpg city for all three trims. Highway is 35 mpg on SV and Platinum and 36 on SR. Combined is 37 mpg on SV and Platinum and 38 on SR, and it takes regular gasoline.

The city number being higher than the highway number is normal for this kind of hybrid. Stop-and-go driving is where the electric motors and the regenerative braking do their best work.

What are the 2027 Rogue Hybrid trims?

Three: SV AWD, SR AWD and Platinum AWD. All three have dual-motor electric all-wheel drive, the 1.5-liter three-cylinder generator and Selectable Terrain Modes as standard.

SV and SR run dual 12.3-inch displays. Platinum steps up to dual 14.3-inch displays with a head-up display, a Bose system with ten speakers and a panoramic moonroof over both rows.

Does the 2027 Rogue Hybrid have all-wheel drive?

Yes, on every trim. There is no front-wheel-drive version. Nissan uses separate electric motors front and rear rather than a driveshaft running down the middle of the car.

For gravel drives around Bassett and Stuart, and for US-220 in a February freeze, that is the configuration most buyers here would have chosen anyway.

What is e-Pedal on the Rogue Hybrid?

It lets you slow the vehicle substantially by lifting off the accelerator, so in heavy traffic you can do most of your driving with one pedal. Nissan pairs it with what it calls Smooth Stop technology.

The brake pedal is still there and still works normally. e-Pedal is a convenience in stop-and-go traffic, not a replacement for braking.

How far is Gunter Nissan from Martinsville, and is the Rogue Hybrid worth the commute?

We are about four miles south of Martinsville at 4760 Greensboro Rd in Ridgeway, on US-220. Danville is roughly 30 miles and 36 minutes on US-58; Roanoke is 51 miles up US-220 with Rocky Mount at the halfway mark.
