Changes for 2027

What is new on the 2027 Nissan Sentra?

Two things changed for 2027. The SR grade can be ordered with a new Midnight Edition Package, which blacks out the badges, the window trim and the 18-inch wheels and adds a Super Black roof. Nissan also retuned the Xtronic CVT for a smoother, more natural acceleration feel.

Everything underneath carries over. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder still makes 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, the lineup is still S, SV, SR and SL, and every grade is still front-wheel drive.

That is a short list, and we would rather say so than pad it. The 2026 Sentra was the big rewrite: new body, new interior, 12.3-inch screens. The 2027 car is that redesign with a styling package added and the transmission tuning sharpened. Both claims come from Nissan's own 2027 Sentra press kit, dated August 18, 2026.

Fuel Economy

How many miles per gallon does the 2027 Sentra get?

Nissan lists the 2027 Sentra S, SV and SL at 30 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined. The SR rates 29, 36 and 32, because its 18-inch wheels and wider tires cost it a little. Every grade uses the same 2.0-liter engine and Xtronic CVT.

Two numbers make that concrete in this market. Martinsville to Roanoke is 51 miles each way on US-220 North, with Rocky Mount at the halfway point. At 38 mpg, the 102-mile round trip is roughly 2.7 gallons.

Martinsville to Danville is shorter: 30 miles, about 36 minutes on US-58. That round trip is closer to 1.6 gallons. If one of those two drives is your week, the highway figure is the whole argument for a sedan over a crossover.

The SR gives up 2 mpg on the highway for its wheels. Whether that trade is worth it is a question you answer by looking at the car, not at a chart. Drive an SV and an SR back to back and decide. Compare the published ratings yourself at fueleconomy.gov.

Which 2027 Sentra grade should you buy?

Most Martinsville buyers land on the SV, which adds the 12.3-inch instrument cluster to the S grade's 12.3-inch touchscreen. The SR is the sporty one and the only grade that takes the Midnight Edition Package. The SL is the quiet one, with ProPILOT Assist and Bose audio standard.

Read the table in prose and it comes out like this. The 2027 Sentra S is the honest base car, with the big touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already standard. The SV adds the second 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver and a power moonroof is optional on it.

The SR is the only grade that takes the Midnight Edition Package, and it is also where ProPILOT Assist first becomes available. The SL makes ProPILOT Assist, Bose premium audio and the moonroof standard, and it gets back the 38 mpg highway rating that the SR trades away, because it runs 17-inch wheels instead of 18s.

What does the SR Midnight Edition Package add?

The Midnight Edition Package is ordered on the SR grade, not sold as a grade of its own. Nissan lists black exterior badges including a Midnight Edition badge, black window opening trim, 18-inch black alloy wheels and a Super Black two-tone roof. It changes the look and nothing mechanical.

This is a styling package, and it is worth being plain about that. The engine, the transmission, the suspension and the interior are the same as any other 2027 Sentra SR. What you are buying is the car in black jewelry instead of chrome.

On a red or white car the Super Black roof reads as a two-tone. On a dark car the whole thing goes quiet. If you have ever looked at a compact sedan and thought it was invisible, this is the version of the Sentra that answers that.

It is also the one worth seeing in person before you order. Black wheels photograph differently from how they look parked in daylight on Greensboro Road.

Is the 2027 Sentra a good commuter car for Martinsville and Henry County?

For the two real commutes out of this market, yes. The 2027 Nissan Sentra rates up to 38 mpg on the highway, which suits the 51-mile US-220 run to Roanoke and the 30-mile US-58 run to Danville. It is front-wheel drive only, so winter mountain roads are a fair objection.

US-220 north of here is the Virgil H. Goode Highway. It runs between Cahas Mountain and the Blue Ridge at Boones Mill and crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway at Murray Gap. It is a real highway, not a crawl, and an hour of it is where a 38 mpg sedan pays for itself.

Henry County is about 50,000 people and Martinsville itself is around 13,000. That is a market where a lot of people drive out to work and back, and where a second car that sips fuel earns its keep faster than a third row ever would.

Here is the honest limit. The Sentra is front-wheel drive on every grade, with no all-wheel-drive option. If your road is a gravel climb toward Stuart or you cross Boones Mill in January, look at the Nissan Kicks instead and let us talk you out of the sedan.

The Roanoke Commute
