The Nissan Rogue seats five. It is a two-row compact SUV, and every Rogue built since 2018 has five seats. The separate Rogue Plug-in Hybrid seats seven.
Five seats. Two rows, with a 60-40 split-folding rear bench. That is the standard Rogue, and it has been five seats every year since 2018.
Seven, in two specific cases. The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is a separate three-row model. And 2014 through 2017 Rogues could be ordered with an optional third row.

The full-size answer, for households that need three rows and a serious tow rating in one vehicle.
Why the Rogue Is a Five-Seater on Purpose
Two rows is a design decision, not an omission. The Rogue gives you 36.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, and up to 74.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. A three-row vehicle of similar length spends most of that on seats.
For most households that is the better trade. The third row in a compact SUV is a short-trip, smaller-passenger row in every brand that offers one, and it eats the boot space you use every single day to serve a use case that comes up a few times a year.
The exception is the household that genuinely carries six or seven people regularly. If that is you, do not try to make a Rogue work. The Nissan Pathfinder was built for it, and it will be a better vehicle for you in every way that matters.

The Plug-in Hybrid Is a Different Vehicle
This is the part most sources get muddled. The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is not a Rogue with a battery in it. It is a separate model with its own powertrain, all-wheel drive as standard, and three rows seating seven. If seven seats in something Rogue-sized is what you are after, it is the one to search for by name.
If You Are Shopping Used
The optional third row only ever appeared on 2014 through 2017 Rogues, through the Family Package, on the S and SV trims. It is a two-seat 50-50 split bench with no lower anchors and no tether anchors, so treat it as occasional space for smaller passengers rather than a place to mount a car seat.
They exist but they are uncommon, so if that is what you want you will be hunting rather than picking. Our used SUV inventory is the place to start, and it is worth telling us what you are looking for so we can keep an eye out.
Seeing One in Person in Ridgeway
Seat questions get answered properly by sitting in the vehicle, not by reading a specification. Bring the car seats you actually own, bring the tallest person in the household, and put both in the back row before you decide anything.
We are at 4760 Greensboro Rd in Ridgeway, on US-220 just south of Martinsville and a few hundred yards from the Martinsville Speedway offices. Sales runs until 7:00pm on weekdays and until 5:00pm on Saturday. Browse the new Nissan Rogue inventory first, or call (276) 956-1212 and we will have a Rogue and a Pathfinder sitting side by side when you arrive so you can compare the back rows directly.
Full specifications for the current car are on Nissan USA if you want to read the numbers before you come out.
Nissan Rogue Seating Questions
How many seats are in the Nissan Rogue?
Five. The Rogue is a two-row compact SUV with a 60-40 split-folding rear bench, and every Rogue built since 2018 seats five people.
There are two exceptions worth knowing about. The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is a separate three-row model that seats seven, and 2014 through 2017 Rogues could be ordered with an optional third row.
Does the Nissan Rogue have a third row?
The standard Rogue does not. It is a two-row vehicle by design, and the space behind the rear seat is cargo room rather than a folded third row.
The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid does have a third row and seats seven. It is a different model with a different powertrain, not a trim of the standard Rogue, so search for it by name.
Which used Rogue years came with seven seats?
2014 through 2017, and only when the original buyer ordered the optional Family Package on an S or SV. It was never offered on the SL or the Hybrid, and Nissan dropped it entirely after 2017.
The third row is a two-seat 50-50 split bench with no lower anchors and no tether anchors, which makes it occasional-use space rather than a car-seat row.
How much cargo room does the Rogue have behind the second row?
36.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 74.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
That is the practical advantage of a two-row layout. A three-row vehicle of similar length spends that space on seats you may only use a few times a year.
What should I buy if I genuinely need three rows?
The Pathfinder. It seats eight as standard on every trim through a 60-40 split second-row bench, or seven when it is fitted with the optional second-row captain's chairs.
The Armada is the step above that, seating up to eight, and the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is the option if you want three rows in something Rogue-sized.
Can I fit three car seats across the Rogue's back seat?
It depends entirely on the seats. Three across in a compact SUV is tight in any brand, and the answer changes with the width and shape of the specific car seats you own.
Bring them with you. Ten minutes in the car park with your own seats and your own vehicle tells you more than any published measurement, and we would rather you find out here than at home.
Sit In One Before You Decide
Bring your own car seats and the tallest person in the house. We will have a Rogue and a Pathfinder pulled up front so you can compare the back rows on the same afternoon.
